Default Who here has fished with or as co-angler??

I have been looking at some of the co-angler standings and it has me wondering, and maybe somebody on here can answer this for me.

1. How is the co-angler assigned to who he is fishing with? Does the boater choose who he wants, or are they just placed together?

2. Where does the co-angler keep his fish if you are in a boat with only one livewell?

3. When weighing in do the co-anglers weigh in at a special time (ie.. before or after boaters) or do they all just weigh in together.

4. When the winnings say "in merchandise only", what types of merchandise can they get?

I know this is quite a few questions, but I'm sure that it is something that some people would find as useful information but never really think of asking it when they are posting on here.

Man, that was fast and to the point. Thanks Capt.

On question 2. What are baby pins? Is this where the bass are marked somehow with culling tags or something?

I've fished about 300 tournies as the co angler, its always the luck of the draw unless you and the boat owner go together in a open tournie, all mine were the old redman series and also the federation BASS.
Back in the old days they used wire diaper pins for one anglers bass in the mouth, or I've see guys clip a section of the tail of the bass, if only one livewell is on the boat, sometimes that section that has been clipped off almost is hard to see or seems to grow back some(hard to believe isn't it)
The weigh in is almost always first come first in line, just make sure you are there to check in with the directors (boat on the water, or at the scales) before its over.
Mechandise only can mean a boat, tackle, sponsors gifts (shirts, jackets etc) or about anything else that was bought or donated..
I was club prez for 4 years and also tournament director for our club, we always paid cash to the top 3 in weight..
once I did win a case of vienna sausages on the ohio river ROFL..but prefer money...or some really nice rods.
In theory, the non boater Supposed to have 4 hours calling the shots, and running the trolling motor, but I've never seen it happen to often...more often than not the guy with the most experience at the lake in question calls the shots...
One thing to watch out for, if you know many spots on the lake, but you boater has "tips" about areas, even though he's unfamiliar with the lake, you're probably going to go to his spots till he craps out.

1. If your fishing a local team event then normally you may choose your own partner.
If you are fishing an open event then alot of times the angler as well as the co-angler are drawn from "a hat". Alot of clubs do it this way.
2. Float tags work well. (these are tags that assist when culling).
3.Boaters normally weigh in first then immediately behind him the co-angler weighs in.
Note: Boats should have two live wells to be eligible for tournaments.
Merchandise only could be any thing.

They covered it well. Except I've never seen that the boaters weigh in first. Whoever has fish in the weigh in bags gets in line. Then you go and weigh in, no matter if it's 5 co-anglers, then 2 boaters, then 1 co, then 10 boaters etc... The point of the weigh in "USUALLY", is to get through it quickly and get the fish released back in the water asap. If you and your boater each have fish, and he wants to go first, then let him LOL. In team tourneys obviously the dual livewells isn't a issue, however in the individual ones, they are supposed to have a seperation of some kind. Fish tags are cheap, and a lot easier to get the fish out of the livewell with to boot. Plus they help with culling, not that "I" know what that is in a tourney rotfl.

If you are carrying your own livewell carrying bag to take the bass to the scales and then to be released, make sure before the next outing that you clean them out..we used to travel from lake to lake each weekend to fish a tournie, and you can carry disease from one lake to another, or bacteria from the fish..
Most bigger tournies will provide weighin bags, but some other anglers carry their own...some of those big MDA tournies that have 900 anglers in it, you're looking at spending some time in line, usually on hot days the weighin site will have several water tanks to keep you bag in as you stay in line, remember a dead fish will cost you ounces at the scales.

bb, baby pins are giant safety pins that were used to hold cloth diapers on before the days of disposables. Same principal as a culling tag.
