well, different lakes have different characteristics. id use a little bit of everything, until you find a lure or bait that they are biting good on.

in 4 feet of water try spinnerbaits: colorado blade in murky water and willowleaf in clear water- dark colors in murky water and natural colors in clear water

in 3 feet of water try worms: dark colors in murky water and natural colors in clear water

in 7 feet of water try medium diving cranks: dark colors in murky water and natural colors in clear water

at sunrise and sunset try topwater: buzzbaits, poppers, torpedos, jitterbugs- dark colors in murky water and natural colors in clear water

around weedbeds try flipping and pitching or frogs

this is just stuff that works for me.

Throw all the stuff you have confidence in. When I go out fishin, I usually start with jerks baits if I'm on my boat, if not, I start with worms or lizzards or senko's. I like to use the standard colors when throwing plastics, like watermelon with red flake or purple&red. Throw whatever you feel best about, but don't be afraid to try something new and different when you are not having much luck with your regular lures. If there open water around you, toss a Mann's baby minus one.

Ive been stuck on a 5" Watermellon seed senko t-rigged into the veg. Had some good luck with it. When Im getting into bigger and bigger fish I'll switch to a Watermellon or Black Zoom 'ol Monster or Mag 11. Pumpkinseed w-grape fleck Culprits in open water. Not much topwater action around here and too much moss to run a diver or blade.

try burning some cranks by them if they follow and dont hit try a senko. also depends on the water temp, visibility, and depth. take a few things for versatility, that is the key to success lol. good luck and let us now how it goes.
