Default Weekly Lake Fork Report from Guide Jim Reaneau

Well, the cool fronts are coming in like they should. The only problem is they are not bringing enough rain. We received 1&3/4 inches of rain last Monday but that nothing for the lake. The lake is still 5 plus inches low. The water temp was 66 degrees this week when I was fishing. The fishing was a little tough this week. The cold fronts will usually stall the fishing for a day or so. Top water pop’r type baits have caught a few fish but as soon as the sun gets up that pattern is over. Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worms and Zig Zags fished weightless or wacky style has been my best bet. I am putting a small nail in the head of the wacky worm and fishing the bait slow over creek channels with grass on either side. The Wave Tiki stick and frog has been good over the grass. Be sure to use a pretty heavy rod for the frog with some heavy line. Getting the fish out of the grass can sometimes be tough. I have been working creeks in the back of flats with shallow water all around and 6 to 9 foot of water in the creeks. The Texas and Carolina rigs have been good out deep and on main lake points. There are fish scattered from deep to shallow. The weather has kept them from really bunching up on deep humps because of the up and down hot and cold. The fishing will only get better as the water gets cooler. This is when the big fish start their feeding to put on the winter fat.
This is a time of year to be on the lake as much as possible as you may catch that fish of a life time plus many are hunting or getting hunting camps ready for deer season. This opens the lake to more fishing areas with out so many fishermen close by. This is a good time to brush up spots without someone watching you.
I still have October and November dates open. Give me a call if you want to book a fishing trip. Don’t forget Christmas is not far off and a Guided Fishing Trip is a great Christmas gift. I have Gift Certificates for all occasions.
