Reb and I launched @ 0645, under overcast skies, a light breeze blowing, with a feeling that today was the day! Actually, it WAS the day!
The day, that is, that resulted in very few phish, all dinks, despite what appeared to be optimal conditions. The water temp (low 70s) is still slowly dropping, (*the lake level is too, dang it,) and the TW bite we've eagerly anticipated just hasn't materialized. There were a dink or two interested in TW, but they were scarcely longer than the Super Spook Jrs. we tossed. There was, as in the past, a lot of schooling activity on the part of yearling fish, and that's a good sign of a successful spawn last Spring and Summer. Reb is off to Choke Canyon next week to take a soldier fishing, so I'll be boatless bank trash unless someone needs a partner/"guide"-on-one-of-our-local-lakes (Canyon, Boerne, [maybe] Medina, or Bastrop.) Speaking of Bastrop, another buddy fished it a week or so ago and caught over a dozen "Slot" bass. Since I'm a catch-and-release guy, the idea of battling several slotties is most appealing, since they'd be solid keepers on other lakes. Anyone for Bastrop ![]() Be safe, FR *That's another thing! With all the non-Germans invading Boerne (see: "Beautiful Boerne Lake 10-15-06") there are too danged many folks drinking water and bathing more often than just on Saturday nights. If the newbies..."Auslanders"...would just assimilate and thereby drink more beer, the ^$%%~! lake would be full. Then there are the silly yuppie/soccer mom geeks that insist on washing their Suburbans, Range Rovers, and BeeEmmDubyas every time a gnat poops on the windshield!!! ![]() |

Man I scuba dive in medina and canyon lake every summer and rarely see bass in canyon. Just mud and big drop offs. Last spring I did see about a 8lbder in medina. Suker was cold as hell! I touched him he was so cold!!. Been to 100ft deep in canyon around the dam and only saw catfish. Se people fishing out there alot though so I guess you guys catch a few. Got a hook in my hand at canyon so I know ya'll are fishing for something. Maybe I'll make a trip w/ a bass boat next summer!!

Jolly, I've never seen a bass on Canyon either when diving, but they are there-Flyrod and I have had a couple 30+ bass days on that lake-all dinks but fun to catch. I have seen them diving in Medina. I haven't dived there in a long time-I got spoiled in the blue water of the Caribbean.

i said it because, any who are fimiliar with texas waters, they arent the clearest... that particular day the water was just unbelievable, and the locals were saying it was the clearest day they've seen in 10 years. clear water = great diving/snorkeling. and I thought i might as well ad in a fish story
