Well, the fishing has been up and down this week with all the weather changes. The early part of the week the fishing was good and then the rain and wind came and slowed the bite for me. Thursday was back to normal and then last nite this very windy front came in and the temps went back down. I can only tell the brave who fish today to be careful. The waves will hide many stumps that are now sticking out of the water. The lipless crank bait and tail spinner has been my best bait the last couple of days. I have noticed many SAND BASS showing up on the points and deep water spots. I was only catching a few ever now and then now you may catch 30 or more. I had one morning where I caught 42 in about a two hour fishing spree. When I caught my first one it was about 12 or 13 years ago and these were 2.5 lbs each. Now they are ¾ to a pound so this tells me they are multiplying at a fast rate. The tail spinner and jigging spoon have been the best bait for these fish.
The grass has been the best location for my bass fishing. They are still hitting a Lake Fork Tackle Twitch Worm and Zig Zag fished weightless or wacky style. The Wave Tiki Stick fished weightless has been good over the matt. My Carolina bite has been slow, but when I do get bit I have used a Wave Tiki Monkey and Lake Fork Tackle Baby Ring Fry. When the fish were on the rig you had to move it very slowly. Dead sticking almost. The fishing should get back to normal after today and the weekend is calling for warmer temps and plenty of sun shine.
I would hit shallow grass mats with a creek running through it. The water being about 4 to 5 feet on the sides and 8 to 10 in the creek. With the low water you can follow the creeks pretty easy and if the grass is thick it will show you the creek channel. Don’t forget if you are looking for a big bite flip a jig along the channel. You and your buddy can get in the middle of the creek and one pitch the left and the other the right. Watch where you get bit then you can fish only those areas. Some times they are on big stuff and some days just the thick stuff. Be sure to catch a few fish before you change the way you are fishing. I would hit every stump, bush and tree along the way.
